Water level in Siruvani Dam is steadily coming down.
COIMBATORE: Hardly a few weeks into summer, Coimbatore has started feeling the impact of fall in water supply.
All eyes are on the dipping water level at the Siruvani Dam.
As of Saturday, the dam had a little more than 17 feet water. This is coming down by around 10 cm a day, as the Corporation draws 81 million litres a day (mld).
The Coimbatore Corporation uses 66 mld for the city to supply water on alternate days. The rest is used to meet the requirements of the wayside habitations. The Siruvani water flows to 36 of the 72 wards in the city.
Given the rate of depletion at the dam and the frequency of supply, the water managers concede that the supply may not last long.
They are hoping that their compatriots implementing the Pilloor Phase II scheme complete the interlinking work by this month end.
Under the Central Government-funded Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme the Corporation is working on the Pilloor Phase II scheme to supply around 60 mld to the city. As part of the interlinking work, the engineers are working on linking the supply mains of Pilloor Phase I and Pilloor Phase II scheme so that the city gets an additional 15 mld. This is to tide over the shortage of supply in the next two months.
