Forest officers arrested eight people for smuggling 50 kg of sandalwood from the forests in Gopalganj area in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh. An official spokesman said forest guards had an encounter with a group of a dozen men who were trying to smuggle sandalwood. Although four of the smugglers managed to flee, forest personnel nabbed eight of them and recovered illicit wood worth Rs 50,000 from their possession.
