The monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala on May 30 -as predicted by India Meteorological Department -but it may be weak because of El Nino's impact, IMD scientists have indicated. Experts from Skymet, a private weather agency , too said the monsoon's first surge over Kerala would be mild and it would advance slowly after onset. Effectively, it would mean a week's delay in the monsoon's arrival over subsequent stations, they added. However, a Met department scientist said it was too premature to predict how the monsoon would behave after making landfall in Kerala. “Monsoon's onset seems imminent and its flow over the Indian Ocean is building up. Good heating is taking place which will help it arrive in Kerala in time. However, since it may be a weak current, its progress may not be quick, “ he said.
