The Centre has announced the launch of a development programme for women to be administered by the women and child development department. The Swayamsidha has a grandiose idea to empower women to demand their rights from family, community and government by increasing their direct access to, and control over material, social and political resources besides enhancing awareness and improved skils.To be implemented in 650 blocks at a total cost of Rs 116.3 crore, the scheme is expected to benefit over nine lakh women through the formation of around 53,000 self help groups(SHGs), 27,000 village societies and 650 block societies.......(Editorial)
