Few people know that only four year ago, Delhi had its own gorges and canyons with canal flowing through them. And visited by nilgais and Siberian birds. Spread over 500 acres in Vasant Vihar, these canyons could have been developed to attract toursist and even Delhiites who wanted fresh air or proximity with nature. And in yet another case of government, apathy, this tract, marked as the southern ridge, has fallen prey to vandalism. So while environmentalists clamor over the protected forest status of the ridge and demand conservation, authorities turn a blind eye arguing that this section is "incompletely notified".
