Encroachment upon forest lands is a common practice in the Assam State. Thanks to petty selfish gains of the powers that be, more and more government ponds are going under illegal occupation. According to the report prepared by the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat 10,748 hectares of land out of the total 24,000 hectares is under the occupation of the encroachers in the Nambor Reserve Forest under Golaghat and Dhansiri subdivisions.
