Despite two civil wars, illegal logging and poaching, the elusive and endangered pygmy hippos are alive and well in the forests of Liberia. A team of British conservationists, led by scientists from the Zoological Society of London, has spotted some of the rare animals at the Sapo National Park in the West African country, the Daily Telegraph reported on Monday. The scientific team, funded by the People's Trust for Endangered Species, set up a network of camera traps which captured the first images of wild pygmy hippos within the first three days. The pygmy hippo is an extraordinary, mysterious creature that has almost never been seen in the wild.
