Ensure profit to farmers in medicinal plant cultivation

Bhopal : Governor Dr Balram Jakhar today inspected Minor Forest Produce Processing and Research Centre at village Barkhera Pathani in the outskirts of Bhopal. The Governor exhorted the scientists and senior officers engaged in research work that maximum participation of farmers should be ensured in the cultivation of medicinal plants. It must also be ensured that farmers get profit from it. Dr Jakhar stressed the need to increase export of medicinal products and stern action for checking sale of fictitious medicines. Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah and Principal Secretary Prashant Mehta were also present on the occasion. Governor Dr Jakhar inspected the laboratory and processing unit of the centre. Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah informed Governor Dr Jakhar the Ayurvedic medicines produced by this centre have also been acclaimed at the national level. Arrangements have been made to market as many as 15 'Vindhya Herbals' products through Trifed, a Union government undertaking. Kunwar Shah also informed that apart from testing of products' quality, arrangements have also been made at the centre for chemical test of products received from farmers and producers. On this occasion, Laghu Vanopaj Sangh's managing director RK Dave informed that more than 200 products are processed and produced by this centre's laboratory. On an average, 2250 samples are received annually at the centre for testing. Dave informed that supply orders for the centre's products are being received regularly. Recently, Rajasthan and Haryana have placed orders to the tune of Rs 2.46 crore and Rs seven lakh respectively.
