'Enviro-Park' inaugurated at St.George

The Rotary Club of Mumbai inaugurated Enviro-Park in the premises of St.George Hospital at the hands of Mumbai Sheriff Indu Sahani yesterday on 5th June, the world environment day. President of Rotary Club, Mr Rumi Jehangir, Dolly Thakur, Mrs Kalpana Munshi, Chairman, Rotary Club, were also presenton the occasion. The Enviro-Park consists of drinking water facility, a contribution from Eureka Forbes, Institute of Environment. This Enviro-Park has a Nana Nani Park, to let senior citizens enjoy the greenery and get the feel of the environment. The Club also started a nursery for children in the hospital. Speaking to FPJ, President the Rotary Club of Bombay Dr Rumi Jehangir said," The purpose of opening this Enviro-Park is to spread awareness among people that environment should be kept clean. We have to look after the main areas in the cities, especially the forest. We are trying to promote green vision and childcare in the city. The rainwater-harvesting project will save rainwater from now onwards. The model will educate children how to save rainwater through this project. Our parks consist of pure drinking water that is safe and hygienic for senior citizens and children visiting the park. The nursery in the paedriatric ward would provide toys to children treated in the hospital from poor families. Mr Rudolf D Souza, Trustee, Eureka Forbes, Institue of Environment said," Since, its World Environment Day Eureka along with Rotary Club have introduced to people visiting the park a green vision which is close to nature." The area of St.George campus receives 1.5 million litres of rainwater every year on the roof tops. Out of that, 50 percent or 0.7 million litres will be used to recharge the ground water that includes the wells in the hospital campus. In the rainwater harvesting project, half of the rainwater ie. 1.5 million litres and 7 million litres will merge into the ground water to recharge the well. The hospital site is known to be the biggest rainwater harvested site in Mumbai so far.
