The Environment ministry has approached the finance ministry for a reducation in import duty for compressed natural gas (CNG) kits which is being considered as a cleaner alternative fuel. At present CNG kits attract about 70 per cent import duty forcing car owners to shell out an additional Rs 30,000 to switch to this technology.
