Luanda - An emergency programme with prevention measures for several diseases, especially cholera, is being prepared by the Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), in the framework of strengthening the Total National Sanitation Programme led by communities. The event was announced by the Environment minister, Paula Francisco Coelho, who spoke to journalists last Friday in the sidelines of a meeting with UNICEF representative in Angola, Abubacar Sultan, which aimed at analyzing the outbreaks (choleras, malaria) situation in the country and ways of prevention. According to the official, the programme provides for the reinforcement of toilets construction projects, manufacture of homemade soap and the elimination of mosquito vectors, as well as awareness of the population in regard to personal hygiene. The initiative will also involve a specialist in tropical diseases, who is expected soon in the country, who will work with teams from the Ministry of Health, in order to jointly identify, at district level, eventual cases of disease outbreaks and ways to tackle them. This programme also provides for the preparation of a national strategy for the mobilization of social support at the local level, with partner companies of the sector, in the framework of social responsibility, as well as training actions of the associations that work in defence of the environment.
