Environmentalist warns disaster for Brahmaputra basin people

On the eve of World Environment Day, an alarm has been sounded to the humanity by a noted environmentalist and a Geographer of international repute.Dr Goswami, who is presently the Professor and Head of the Department of Environment Science of the Gauhati University, in one of his papers prepared for the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICI-MOD), Kathmandu, Nepal, on the Status of Forests in the Brahmaputra Basin, expressed serious concern over the the fact that the forests in the Brahmaputra basin are under considerable pressure to meet the growing demand for wood, fodder, timber and other products.
