The environmental movement has taken a new turn in the U.S. with the entry of some large conservation organisations into commercial forestry. The Nature Conservancy, based in Arlington, Virginia and Vermont Land Trust in Montpelier, Vermont said they have purchased 10,716 hectares of timberland in Vermont and upstate New York that they will manage as partners in a commercial demonstration project.
