A meeting of the House Committee on Estimates was held in Srinagar to review the forest scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chairman of the Committee, Mohammad Shafi Bhat presided. It was felt that forests in the state over the years have been degraded and need vigorous afforestation. It was decided that for rehabilitation of degraded forests massive plantation would be done under the newly centrally sponsored National Afforestation programme.
