EU nears CO2 deal with Japan carmakers, Korea stalls

Japanese carmakers are nearingagreement with the European Commission on a voluntary scheme to cut pollution, but negotiations with Korean manufacturers remain deadlocked, EU officials said. The Japan Automobile Manufacturers' Association has now reached a "tentative agreement" with the Commission to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in line with a similar deal struck with European constructors last July, JAMA spokesman Darcy Nicolle told Reuters.
