A green miracle or hogwash? Depends on whose claims you believe. While on one hand the Delhi state department of forests is congratulating itself on the successful greening of the Asola sanctuary, other conservationists are crying foul. At the centre of the controversy are figures posted by the Forest Survey of India (FSI) on Delhi's forest cover. Conservator of forests S S Garbyal swears by the FSI figures and says that the 88 sq km of forests recorded in 1999 would have increased to well over 100 sq km by the time the survey for 2001 is released in September.
