Nongstoin: The District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin in exercise of power conferred under section 144 Cr PC has prohibited the usage of explosives and toxic chemicals or other harmful substances for killing of fishes and other aquatic life in streams, rivulet as well as river within West Khasi Hills District. The District Magistrate also expressed that it has become necessary to protect the aquatic life as well as to ensure safe quality of water for domestic, agricultural and other purposes. Therefore, the usage of such explosives and toxic chemicals by any individual or group of individual in streams, rivulets and rivers situated in Kynshi, Wah Non dein, Wah Mawsier etc is prohibited and punishable.
