Negotiations on reducing carbon dioxide emissions of Japanese cars in Europe are under way between the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and the European Commission, following the initial meeting of officials from the two organizations in October. The European car manufacturers' federation--the Association des Constructures European d'Automobiles (ACEA)--and the EU agreed in July to cut average emissions of carbon dioxide from 186 grams to 140 grams per kilometer driven by the year 2008, thereby reducing carbon dioxide overall by 25 percent.
