A fairly common celestial occurrence called a meteor shower took place a few days ago over parts of Gujarat. It apparently included a blazing sound-and-light spectacle which for the duration unnerved the inhabitants of the Kutch region. Villagers said they saw a moving fireball rushing earthwards, which lit up the skies and nearby areas with its incandescence before crashing to the ground with a loud noise, followed by low-density sounds and a couple of mild after-tremors. Although there were no cases of injuries, early reports mentioned that small shards of a fallen meteor, called meteorites, were recovered by residents as well as officials who forwarded the fragments to the Ahmedabad-based Physical Research Laboratory for routine analysis...editorial
