Farmers belonging to several villages complained to the district collector against the managements of cement factories being set up on their lands at the praja darbar held in the Collectorate on Monday. In a memorandum submitted to the collector, Mr Eddula Chennaiah, a farmer from Madhavaravam village of Pyapili mandal alleged that cement companies were forcibly occupying their land in the village. Mr Chennaiah said that he had six acres of land in survey No. 690 and he along with one Nagaraju and Srinivasulu were dependent on the land. He complained that the factory management built a road to the factory in his field without his knowledge. When asked for compensation, there was no response from the management, he said and pleaded with the collector to do justice to him. Similarly, several farmers of Bilakagudur and Bijanuru villages also complained against the cement factory being set up in Gadivemula mandal. They alleged that the managements were taking over farm lands leaving behind government lands. Only meagre compensation was being paid to them, they alleged. The farmers requested that the authorities take steps to ensure that the cement factory managements provide jobs to residents of the two villages and provide all basic facilities like drinking water, school and free medical facilities to them.
