The farmers of three mandals of Tirumalayapalem, Khammam Rural and Kusumanchi, who were not getting irrigation water to their fields through the stage two of Sriramsagar Project demanded water from Rajivsagar Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) or from Krishna-Godavari link canal project. The farmers lost hope of getting water from Sriramsagar phase two because the land in Warangal district dad not receive water to their lands. Under the circumstanes, it is very difficult to get water from it to Khammam district. The farmers wanted water from the link canal project for their land. About 40,000 acres in the three mandals was proposed to be irrigated through the SRSP phase two. About 90 per cent of the works of the main channel and other distributories have been completed in the phase two of SRSP. The phase is only for namesake as sufficient water is not available in Sriramsagar project due to the construction of Babli and other projects in Karnataka across river Godavari. As a result, farmers planned to exert pressure on the government to divert water from RLIS or the link canal project to their region. The Telangana Rastra Samiti state secretary, Mr G. Sankara Rao said, "There is no other go to extend water to the land in these three mandals but by drawing it from the link canal project.'
