Mr Lachhman Singh, well known forest contractor and former MP defended an order issued by the Punjab government permitting him to undertake fresh felling of trees in Mirzapur forest. In a statement issued, he said the order under which he had been granted an extension in the period for undertaking felling of trees in the forest was "legal, valid and according to the rules".
