Female literacy in Assam higher than national average

The female literacy rate according to the Census 2001, in the northeastern States including Sikkim except Arunachal Pradesh has risen even above the national average. In Assam, female literacy rate is 56.70 per cent in Manipur, 60.41 per cent in Meghalaya, 61.46 per cent in Sikkim, 61.92 per cent in Nagaland and 65.41 per cent in Tripura. Literacy among women has increased from 39 per cent in 1991 to 54 per cent in 2001, which is an increase of 15 per cent in one decade.
