Final phase of Posco land acquisition resumes

The Jagatsinghpur district administration on Friday resumed the land acquisition process for the mega Posco steel project at Gobindapur village amidst stiff opposition from the anti-Posco villagers. “This will be the last phase of acquisition. Today, we dismantled 18 betel vines and paid Rs 36 lakh as compensation,” said Jagatsinghpur district collector Satya Kumar Mallick. Fifteen villagers, including Krushna Sahoo, Saki Bardhan, Bachana Mohanty, Ahalya Mohanty, Baluri Mohanty, Ramesh Mohanty, Kuna Baral and Tofan Mohanty sustained injuries in the confrontation between police and anti-Posco villagers. There were complaints of misbehaviour with women. Six platoons of armed police forces were deployed to ward off untoward incidents.
