A bushfire raging out of control in New South Wales has killed 4,500 sheep and burned through 22,000 acres of grassland, officials said on Thursday. New South Wales state prime minister Bob Carr declared the massive blaze a bushfire emergency as it continued to burn near Crookwell, 110 miles southwest of Sydney. The declaration gives rural fire service commissioner Phil Koperberg the power to call on the state's entire bushfire fighting resources to control the blaze.
