The Council of Advisers yesterday approved the Fish Feed and Livestock Feed Ordinance 2008 aimed at boosting commercial fishery, poultry and dairy production. The objective of the new law is also to increase supply of "disease-free protein on the domestic market, bring dynamism in the export trade and maintain quality of standard of the products'. A regular weekly meeting of the council of advisers with Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair gave the final approval to the ordinance, which was earlier approved in principle by the council in December 2007. Under provision of the new ordinance production offish feed, livestock feed, its processing, import, export, marketing, buying, sale, distribution and other related activities cannot be done without license. According to the provision, the names of compositions of feed should be inscribed on the packet correctly and production and expiry dates also written on the packet. "If anyone violates the rules, maximum one-year imprisonment or Tk 50,000 fine, or both, would be given.' Members of the Advisory Council were present at the meeting at the CA's office. Cabinet Secretary, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary and secretaries concerned were also present. Besides, Special Assistant to Chief Adviser for Power Division Dr Tamim apprised the meeting of the latest state of production of electricity. He said 600 to 800MW electricity is being fully dedicated uninterruptedly for irrigation per day. Food Adviser Dr AMM Shawkat Ali apprised the meeting that activities of repairing and maintenance of government godowns have started ahead of Boro procurement.
