Fish production in the Central and east European countries and the Russian Federation has shown signs of recovery after several years of decline. Production of fish in these countries had decliend dramatically over the past several years, mainly due to the loss of access to distant-water fishing grounds and the collapse of centrally controlled marketing and distribution network, according to an FAO report.
