Fisheries board in the dock

The entire National Fisheries Board of Papua New Guinea was suspended yesterday. Prime Minister Bill Skate has ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the appointment of the board's deputy chairman, Israel Edoni as executive director of a private fishing company which planned to develop a multi-million kina tuna cannery in the country. According to Mr. Skate the investigation would also provide details of a "Filipino Group" involved in the proposed cannery project under an arrangement which appeared to be in contravention of the NEC decision.
