Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the Central government for inclusion of Tikamgrh, Chhatarpur, Datia, Sagar and Satna districts in the special category under farm loan waiver scheme so that other farmers of this drought affected districts could also be reasonably benefited under the scheme. Chouhan has written a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh urging him to advise the Union Finance Ministry in this regard. The Chief Minister drew the attention of the Prime Minister that according to the guidelines issued by the Union Finance Ministry for providing debt relief to the other farmers under Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme-2008 in case of revenue districts covered under DPAP, DDP areas and PM's Special Relief Package, OTS rebate of 25 per cent of the eligible amount or Rs 20000, whichever is higher, will be given subject to the condition that the farmers pays the balance of the eligible amount. Though 25 districts of Madhya Pradesh are included in the above category, but many districts especially of Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions, which are repeatedly suffering from drought conditions, are not covered. These districts are Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Datia and Sagar of Bundelkhand region and Satna of Vindhya region. The Chief Minister also mentioned in the letter that the inter-ministerial central team headed by Dr JS Samra which visited Bundelkhand areas of UP and MP to study drought conditions has also recommended that waiving of interest and loans of the distressed farmers should be taken care by the Debt Waiver scheme announced by Government of India. The Chief Minister has urged the Prime Minister to advise the Ministry of Finance to include Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Datia, Sagar and Satna districts in the above special category so that other farmers of these drought affected districts could also be reasonably benefit under the scheme.
