Five persons have been detained in connection with killing of a female leopard near the Apsara Vihar gate of the Pachmari's Satpura National Park three days ago.
They were detained by the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department officials yesterday, Satpura National Park Deputy Ranger, M Pathak said today.
He said that three of the accused are residents of Pachmarhi Tola area but refused to divulge their names as it could affect further investigations. The Forest officials were interrogating them for more details, Pathak said.
Initially, it was found that the accused were poachers and they had laid the trap for herbivorous animals but the leopard got stuck in it, the Deputy Ranger said.
The investigators have recovered a cable used for poaching and another trap near the place where the leopard was found dead in a snare on May 22, he said.
Pathak said that the feline's viscera has been sent for forensic examination to Jabalpur as in the post-mortem, it was noticed injuries on her waist and suspected that the leopard should be killed by poachers.
