Five tigers have disappeared from Rajasthan’s Ranthambhore National Park in last six months. MLA Kirori Lal Meena alleged this in the state Assembly on Tuesday. Expressing doubts over tracking system of tigers, Dr Meena demanded that tigers should be tracked from Jaipur instead of Sawai Madhopur.
Dr Kirori Lal Meena, a MLA from Lalsot who represented Sawai Madhopur in the state Assembly in the past, raised the issue during Zero Hour. “In last six months, five tigers — namely T 47 popularly known as Mohan, T48, T65, T67 and T68 — have disappeared from the national park,” he revealed.
He said that even after so much time has lapsed the forest officials have been unable to trace these tigers, which is unfortunate as Ranthambhore National Park is famous in the world for the tigers. Dr Meena also expressed doubts over tiger tracking system being monitored from Sawai Madhopur and asked the minister to shift the monitoring to Jaipur.
Forest minister Rajkumar Rinwa assured the House that disappeared tigers would be located soon. “We will constitute a monitoring team immediately to locate the missing tigers. A separate monitoring cell will also be set up in Jaipur,” he said.
However, the minister said that tigers tracking and counting is being done through camera tracking system as per guidance of the National Tiger Conservation, Dehra Dun. “The Ranthambhore Natio-nal Park had 21 tigress, 22 tiger and 16 cubs by the last counting in May 2014,” he said.
