The culvert over Hardajor nullah between Kegaon and Lanji in Golmunda block of Kalahandi district, which was washed away in heavy rains two years back.
PURI: About seven lakh people of 122 GPs in 10 blocks of the district and over two lakh domestic animals were affected while paddy crop in 77,000 hectare was destroyed in the flood in the district. This was informed by Bijay Kumar Naik, district emergency officer. A large population was marooned. Efforts are on to provide relief to the marooned population, he said.
Senior government officials took stock of the situation and directed the health department to take preventive steps in the areas, where water has receded, to prevent outbreak of epidemic and provide health care to the needy in marooned villages. About 40 medical teams have been constituted to provide health care in flood-hit areas. Works, Irrigation and RD departments have initiated works to repair breeches. There were 17 breeches on river embankments while 96 roads were cut off. The breach in NH-203 at Teisipur snapped road communication to Bhubaneswar.
