Flood fight: Bihar goes proactive

Leaving nothing to chance, the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has formed Flood Fighting Forces (FFF) to identify vulnerable points and provide technical advice to officials concerned during floods amid indications that the state is set to get a normal monsoon this year after two consecutive years of drought. The authorities said experienced and retired engineers would head the Flood Fighting Forces.
Officials in the state water resources department said a total of 10 FFF have been formed to tackle floods. Each FFF, to be headed by a chairman, will have an executive engineer, two junior engineers, a gazetted official nominated by the Disaster Management department and a team to respond promptly to any flood threat in any river basin.
