From our Staff Correspondent
DIBRUGARH,July 17: More than 20 villages under Larua Mouza in Dibrugarh District faces extinction due to unabated flood and erosion of Buridihing river. Dibrugarh MP Sarbananda Sonowal today visited the Pani Miri Village under Larua Mouza and assessed the situation arising out of flash flood.
The people of Larua Mouza, just 25 kilometer away from Dibrugarh town have been fighting for survival due to lack of communication facilities, proper health care system, poor drinking water facilities, absence of electricity and above all flood and erosion problems caused by the Brahmaputra, Buridihing and Sessa rivers from last several years.
The massive erosion of Buridihing has already washed away hundred of bighas of land of historically renowned Dihing Than Gaon, Itakhuli, Motok kaiborta gaon, Singori Bali gaon, Chakoi pathar, Rongagora, Bordoibam, Maj gaon and Bam Kolakhowa village.
The people of the mouza on several occasions brought the attention of the authorities by submitting memoranda and personal request for taking adequate steps in addressing the flood and erosion. They also demanded short term as well as long term anti-erosion measures for protecting the areas from flood and erosion but the concerned authorities miserably failed to take any initiatives to this affect citing lack of adequate fund.
It is alleged that Ms Jivan Tara Ghatowar, sitting MLA of Moran constituency and the parliamentary secretary of health and family welfare failed to take any measures despite her tall claims of making good the shortcoming within period of one week.
Sonowal during his visit sanctioned two lakhs rupees for taking immediate anti erosion measures in the area.
The concrete porcupine, built by the flood control department at Panigaon by spending ten lakh rupees is in a utter state of disreapair due to lack of maintenance, heavy erosion from last two years.
If this be the state of the concrete porcupine, the people are apprehensive about the viability of the proposed bamboo porcupine which are presently being put in place by the Flood control department.
