Flood havoc continues in State

Road communication through the National Highway (NH) 31, which was overtopped by the floodwaters of the Puthimari at Kendukona yesterday, is expected to be restored by tomorrow morning. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today visited the flood-affected areas of Kamrup district. Meanwhile, body of one Chandan Sarma was recovered by the Army. Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup RC Jain said this afternoon that there was no breach in the NH-31as reported in a section of the media. The Puthimari floods have affected around 30,000 people of 27 revenue villages under the two revenue circles of Kamalpur (15 villages) and Rangiya (12 villages). One person Jehirul Islam of Kendukona is reported missing after the floods created havoc in the area. However, his body is yet to be found, said the Deputy Commissioner. The district administration has distributed three days ration among the affected people and three relief camps have also be set up to shelter the flood victims. But only about 100 families are now taking shelter in these camps and the rest of the people are taking shelter on the Highway and also on the embankment, informed the Deputy Commissioner. Today the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Dibrugarh, Neamatighat, Tezpur and Dhubri. It is flowing above the warning level at Guwahati and Goalpara. Its tributaries Puthimari, Subansiri, Jia-Bharali, Kopili and Beki are also flowing above the danger mark at their respective gauge stations. The Dhansiri (S) is flowing above the warning level at Numaligarh, and Dharamtul respectively, while the Manas, the Barak and the Katakhal are flowing above the warning level at their respective gauge stations The Brahmaputra is maintaining a rising trend at Tezpur, while the Jia-Bharali is maintaining a similar trend at NT Road Crossing. The Barak is also maintaining the same trend at Annapurna Ghat, said the official sources. In the river island Majuli, the number of affected villages has gone up to 140 today. Minister Gautam Bora, who is in-charge of the Upper Assam areas, visited the flood-hit island today along with Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat LS Sangsang to take stock of the situation there. SDO (Civil) of the island Sub-division Promod Chandra Deka told this newspaper that the floodwaters had breached the Kamalabari- Auniati PWD Road at three places
