Flood havoc: More than 25 villages inundated in Desangmukh

The flood situation in some parts of Sivasagar district has deteriorated due to incessant rains in the district. With the rise in the water level of Brahmaputra river, the flood waters of the river Desang simultaneously, has created havoc in the greater Desangmukh area under Konwerpur Mouza inundating more than 25 villages. About 40,000 people in the area have been affected by the current wave of Jiadhal flood. The worst-affected villages in the area include Afala, Sumoni, Alisiga, Bahir Ligiribari, Boloma, Na-Boloma, Charaipara, Namoni Garhbhaga, Tiorbasti, Julatup, Demowmukh, Lepai, Saraguri, Jail Gaon, Pamua gaon, Ajarguri, Panbecha, Tantipathar, Luruki Chuk and Chenimora. The flood waters in these villages have risen up to waist level inside the houses, forcing people to take shelter either on the embankment along the Brahmaputa river or the Deka Barbaruah road along with their cattle and poultry. The paddy crop fields in these areas are also under water.
