Flood situation in Sivasagar grim, 25 villages under water

Sivasagar district recorded continuous 12-hour heavy rainfall since Saturday night till Sunday afternoon. The heavy rainfall has further swelled the rivers of the district. As per the latest report of the District Water Resource Management Department, a total of 25 villages under Sivasagar Revenue Circle were still under flood water. Under Sivasagar Circle and Amguri Circle, villages like Namoni Mamol, Garbhaga, Chinamora, Tanti Pathar, Garkush, Khemdoi Pukhuri, Mitong, Na-Katani, Abhaipuria, Dhadumia, Namtial and Maduri Gohain Gaon were affected in this year’s first flood. A total area of 1,690 hectares of rice cultivation has been damaged and a total of 3,160 people and about 6,000 big and small poultry have been affected by flood in the district. Till now no case of any causality has been reported but the rescue teams, including SDRF and NDRF and also Army, police and fire personnel, are keeping round-the-clock vigil on the situation and are ready to conduct any rescue operation. Besides, relief camps were established in Kacharigaon Majbari LP School with a total 100 inmates and Bamunbari Natyamandir with total 75 inmates while in Krishipam LP School total 175 inmates have been taking shelter. Sivasagar district administration has been providing relief materials to the flood-affected people and the District Health Department has also been conducting mobile medical camps and also mobilizing mobile doctor teams to the severely-affected areas of the district. Free medicines were distributed. Apart from this, District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department doctors and officials have also visited the flood-affected areas.
