The Disaster Management Centre yesterday announced that some areas in the Trincomalee and Anuradhapura districts were inundated following torrential rain, but no flood victims were reported so far. The Centre said that in the Anuradhapura district, the water level of the Rajanganaya, Kalawewa and Nachchaduwa tanks had risen due to heavy rain. "Two sluice gates of the Rajanganaya tank had been opened to release the excess water,' the Centre said in a statement. It said that a discussion was held between the District Secretariat, the Centre and the Irrigation department's officials about the prevailing situation in the district. However it was decided not to evacuate people from the low lying areas immediately. "But the district management committee is on alert to face any situation,' the statement added. Meanwhile, in the Trincomalee district, some areas including the Trincomalee town, Gomarankadawala, Kinniya, Mutur and Saifanagar had gone under water.
