Fluorosis makes Amreli villagers limp

Fortyeight-year-old diamond cutter Ravajibhai Rathod living in Sanaliya village of Liliya taluka is unemployed for the last three years. He was a skilful worker, but now due to fluorosis he can neither bend his knees nor walk without a stick. Of the total population of 1,500 in the village, around 30 per cent people are affected by fluorosis, which has made them unemployed and dependent on others, much like Ravajibhai. The village does get Narmada water, for which a pipeline has been laid, but due to inadequate and irregular supply, people here are forced to drink unpotable groundwater having high fluoride content.
