Focus on biomedical waste disposal

The Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project (TNHSP) on Wednesday conducted a review meeting on biomedical waste disposal in secondary care government hospitals in seven districts of Western Tamil Nadu.
According to TNSHP Deputy Director (Infection Control Waste Management), G. Jayanthi, who chaired the meeting, emphasis was placed on proper segregation, storage, transport and disposal of medical waste.
Agents appointed
Authorised agents have been appointed to collect the waste from government hospitals.
Training on biomedical waste management was already being provided in Coimbatore at the regional training centres in PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, she said.
Project district coordinators and around 80 staff nurses from Coimbatore, Tirupur, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Dharmapuri and the Nilgiris attended the meeting.
