NAVI MUMBAI: Mumbai and Konkan Division Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) carried out a special drive at Airoli, Vashi, Thane and Mulund check posts to crack down on carriers transporting adulterated milk. The drive started at 10pm on Tuesday and lasted till 6am on Wednesday. The 100-member-strong team conducted surprise checks to inspect milk and took samples for analysis. As many as 100 milk tankers were checked on the spot. Out of 3.69 lakh litres of milk that went under FDA scanner, 8,500 litres (4,500 litre cow milk and 4,000 litre buffalo milk) failed to meet the FDA regulations. The milk vans were sent back to the firms that produced or distributed them. The team also checked the fat content set by FDA. "We have informed the respective district administrations to take action against those supplying sub-standard milk for consumption. Two samples were sent to FDA laboratory for more tests as the adulterating ingredients could not be identified," said Suresh G Annapure, joint commissioner of FDA, who led the drive.
