Food tagging faces review

The health ministry in Japan will review its food tagging system in an attempt to ease fears about allergic reactions and genetically manipulated produce, ministry sources said today. The ministry-appointed Food Sanitation Investigation Council, at a general assembly Tuesday, will establish a committee of experts to discuss the issue, the sources said. Article 11 of the Food Sanitation Law states that foods must be tagged with production and expiration dates, and additives must be listed on the containers. The original aim of the article was to prevent food poisoning.
