Thirty legislators participated in the debate for demand of grants of forest and allied departments in the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly. Most of the members stressed that the department must not be taken merely as a revenue-generating sector but priority should be accorded to save the forest and to maintain the ecological balance. Majority of the members lauded the performance of the Fisheries Department and called for taking up fish farming in the private sector in a big way.
