Deep resentment prevails among the people in Kokrajhar over the 'anti-forest' attitude of the Forest Department which is entrusted to safeguard the reserve forests in the area. At at time when massive deforestation is going on throughout the district, the authorities are still denying it for reasons best known to them. The Jharbari reserve forest under Chirang reserve is fast booming extinct due to large-scale deforestation, but has termed the reports in this regard as false and baseless.
