Worried over the diminishing number of amphibians in the Chambal River due to pollution, the forest department is going to measure and enumerate the amphibians. In this regard, a survey would be conducted from February 4-17, enumerating ghariyals, crocodiles, dolphins, and tortoise. After the death of several ghariyals last year in Chambal, the forest department has become alert. The river was affected adversely due to pollution. The forest department of Itawah and Hamirpur had fixed transmeters in ten ghariyals to keep a watch on their movement. The 435-km-long Chambal is divided in three sectors for survey. The department has invited NGOs and private institutes to take part in the 13-day survey. Three teams have been formed for the survey. Chambal DFO RP Sharma said that annual survey of Chambal would be conducted from February 4-17 in which amphibians would be enumerated.
