Jatropha would be planted at the peripheries of new plantations to be undertaken by Forest Department. Giving this information, Forest Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah informed that in the coming days this move would ensure livelihood to rural people though Forest Committees and bio-diesel would also become available from jatropha oil in remote areas. The Forest Department is undertaking plantations under various departmental schemes as well as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Plantations are also undertaken under Haryali Mahotasava scheme along roads and banks of canals. Usually, protection of these plantations is being done by fencing of barbed wires or constructing walls. Jatropha carcass is such a species, which can be planted along the fencing of walls either by planting jatropha cuttings or sowing its seeds directly. Besides, farmers can also undertake plantation of jatropha along the fencing of their fields. This would also help them in selling off its seeds apart from preparation of a green hedge which would be helpful in protection of plantations and crops from animals. Arrangements have been made to provide jatropha cuttings from the nurseries of Research and Extension Circles.
