Forest land allotted for running cow shelter

The Delhi Governemnt has allotted reserved forest area to an NGO for running a cow-shelter, violating the Forest (Conservation) Act of 1988.An NGO, People for Animals, was allotted 63 acres of land for a cow-shelter in the Bawana area in 1996. Of this, 40 acres comprises protected forest area. This forest land falls under the jurisdiction of the Forest(Conservation) Act, 1988.Though the Delhi Government had allocated land to the NGO for running the gosadan and growing fodder for animals, the Minitry of Environment has stated that such activities can not be carried out on protected forest land.
