The Joint Forest Planning and Management (JFPM) programmes implemented in the Western Ghats and Eastern Plains with massive foreign assistance have not yielded positive results and hence, there is a need to formulate to new policy that is a truly participatory in nature and sustainable, felt Village Forest Committee (VFC) representatives, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) and researchers. As many as 25 VFCs, NGOs, forest officials and researchers from different parts of Karnataka participated in the convention on "Participatory Forest Management Policy".
