BHUBANESWAR: Given the conflict between the State and Centre over the tiger enumeration using camera trap methodology, the latter has decided to capacitate the Forest Department with the knowhow so that they could use the improved technology in future. In the last meeting of tiger reserve heads held at Sariska, it was resolved that the Wildlife Institute of India will impart necessary skill training to officials so that the next census can be conducted smoothly. Training for Orissa officers would be held at Kanha Tiger Reserve beginning September 29. The next round of tiger census starts in November and will spread over four phases. The last enumeration which had posted the tiger number in Orissa at barely 45 had generated enough heat leading to a face off and a fresh census by the State Government. The National Tiger Conservation Authority and WII would impart the training to the officials.
