The West Bengal forest department has drawn up a list of projects to develop forests in South and North Bengal. The effort is to engage people living close by in the schemes and ensure that they do not fell trees indiscriminately to earn their livelihood. The schemes include development of eco-tourism, setting up watchowers in forests and constructing cottages to attract tourists.
